To celebrate my older sister's few last days of the single life, we went to Melbourne a few weeks ago along with her high school best friends and my cousin.
We braved the wind and followed the red brick road (and the wonderful smell) down Hardware Street, a narrow street lined with interesting restaurants and cafes. Destination #1 was Hardware Société, famous for being number one brunch spot in Melbourne (thanks urbanspoon), and despite all of us claiming we were too full for dessert, we still went over to Le Petit Gateau... for a nibble.
They offered a variety of tempting dessert, and it took me forever to pick one. We eventually chose three flavours, hazelnut millefeuille, monsieur green tea (above), and a special flavour green tea gateau. Couldn't take a nicer picture cause were sitting by the glass window with the chefs staring at us, and felt a bit ridiculous about snapping away.As we ate, we also stared and watched the chefs do their thing. They made magic with chocolate and it was almost addictive to keep watching them do their thing. Somehow, our freaky stares got their attention, and amazingly one of the pastry chef (Nick) invited us four to get a tour of the kitchen!!! They thought that we were pastry students (thanks to our crazy eyes while watching them).
They gave us a chance to take a snap with the Pierrick Boyer himself.
As I'm not of pastry school background, I wasn't aware who he was. But Nick kept insisting that we took a photo with him. And I do see why he's so famous, his cakes can't be described by words. In a good way.
Nights were spent looking over the harbour, and into the Melbourne skyline. After a trip to the Eureka Skydeck and enjoying the city lights from so high, we enjoyed the night view from our apartment balcony. Not such a bad way to end the nights.
