Every marathon should be this fun!
We've been counting down to this event for months. It was our first marathon together, and it was so fittingly us. It was only 5km, there were lots of similar crazy people, great DJ, food, and too much fun it should be illegal!!
Started the day off bright and early at Centennial Park, it was a nice change to see people who don't normally do morning exercises paying to walk.
An old man came up to us and asked which charity we were walking for. In our blank faces and speechlessness, it was evident that we were just walking for the colour bombs and the DJ.
I came with clean shirts and perfectly good hair and was determined to keep my hair down for the entire walk, because nobody wants to see my spiky baby hair out! That plan (as you will witness soon) went down the drain not even an hour into the walk.
We strutted our way through the starting line, and it felt as if we were a herd of cattle being shepherded into a barn. Look at how many people there was! Apparently, there was around 20,000 people in the walk!
It escalated and got colourful real quick. In normal situations, we would avoid getting dirty, but today we craved the mess. And a beautiful mess it was.
There was people (including ourselves) rolling around on the floor to get as much colour as they can. Running around to get our friends equally as dirty as we are...
The crowd goes crazy in every different zones. There were 5 zones: pink, blue, orange, purple, green, bubble, and 'snow' foam. And somehow each zone keeps getting better than the last. People were unrecognisable with all the colour on their faces, and girls were able to be carefree and makeup free.Arms up high, bouncing to the beat of the music. Girls climbing on shoulders. Clouds of colour dust. Giant bouncy balls getting passed around on the mosh pit. It was like going to a really cheap concert and getting to listen to all your favourite artists. Sounds just like my regular Sunday night, with the exception of the girls on boys' shoulders, and no colour dust... It's usually just me dancing in the bathroom with my sister while we brush our teeth.
We laughed. Dance. Chased each other down. Threw water at each other. And colour dust too. Took too many photos that didn't turn out really nice. And a handful that did.
We huddled up on the ground, piled up (on top of me of all people) and took one of my favourite and most colourful group photo. Getting down and dirty has never looked so good!
Ever the gentlemen, Benny wouldn't get off of us. Piling up was easy; it was getting this guy off that was difficult. He made sure us girls suffered a little before jumping off. I almost couldn't breathe again! Walking home was definitely a new experience. All heads were turned and eyes were on us as we walked in the city. There was a moment where we didn't know why on earth they were staring at us until we turned to look at a mirror. My face alone looks like I got beaten up - and was more than okay with it! It was definitely a moment that would be hard to beat, unforgettable one at most. Follow us with Bloglovin
